To end a fun filled science term we turned our classroom into an expo to share our experiments with our buddy class, room 6. Everyone put in a huge effort into their presentations and experiments and I couldn't be more prouder of what they produced! Here are some pictures that captured smiles, concentration and a whole lot of fun!

Well.. this experiment must of been a favourite from all the excitement the children gave off when it was just being announced! Simple and easy to do at home, scroll down to see the recipe :) All ingredients mix together into a medium size snap lock bag. PreperationIsaiah, Harvey and Dean getting ready to add in the second ingredient. Cream. Time to get shakingOur bag of mixture gets put into a bigger bag full of ice and salt. Check it out! Lily R watching as the cream and milk slowly form to make a solid. the ResultWould you want to eat this?? It tastes pretty good. Mei, Junior, James, Dean, Tama and Tom with their final product. Hazel, Libby, Lily H, Jazzy and Sophie ready and waiting to eat. Abbie, Nawaia, Lily R, Dom, Leah and Ea with what I would call a pretty good bag of ice cream. We all know who's ready to eat theirs! Liam, Isaiah, Lucas, Harvey and Ben. How to make ice cream. quick and easy!As simple as pouring cream into a jar and shake shake shake. Little pinch of salt won't hurt either. It was a hard task to get the shaking consistent and strong! We got there in the end though, some of the facial expression while shaking were priceless. We then put on some music to help us get in some good rhythm! It was heaps of fun!
We are continuing to look at the states of matter. Solid, liquid and gas. Making ooblek was a great way to see the physical changes of these states. A whole lot of mess and fun was made! Libby, Lily H, Nawaia, Sophie and Hazel with their pink ooblek. Tama, Lily R, Lennox, Junior and Harvey. The messiest group :) Dean, Tom, Ben and James creating a slimy mess all over their hands Dom, Isaiah, Leah, Abbie and Lucas had the bet batch out of everyone
This term our new topic revolves around SCIENCE! We are super excited to get hands on with cool experiments to look at how particles change and what effects these changes.
We ask ourselves are all changes permanent? Or can they be reversible. This is what we want to know! Here are our focus questions for this term - How can we make substances change? - Are all changes permanent? - How does matter undergo physical and chemical changes and why does this happen? - What causes food to change and how do we change food? Term 2
Wednesday 30th May- We set off on a fantastic trip to Ferrymead where we learnt heaps about how people lived during WW1. We had so much fun. Look how great we look all dressed up! At the beginning of April we were lucky enough to be able to go to the Ashburton museum. We learnt about War and why we have Anzac Day and we also got to explore different types of technology upstairs. Children wrote with Nibs and ink, wrote on blackboards and slates, played old fashioned games, read old books and looked at old camera's, pens and phones. Room 4 children knew most of these things from our learning in class. By coming to the museum we were able to create stronger connections from what we had already learnt. The children enjoyed the visit very much! And of course we have some photos to show what we did. |
