For weeks 1 and 2 we will be looking at Anzac Day.
Here is a link that will take you to an activity page for our week 2 reading. The story is called Our Brother Andy. This year our buddy reading class is room 6. Their teacher is the lovely Miss Wilson, and just like us they have Mrs Reid in once a week to teach. We are lucky enough to have buddy reading time with them every Friday when Mrs Reid is in. - We love reading with the younger children. - We support and guide their reading. - We ask questions to share our stories to each other. - We enjoy spending time with room 6. As part of our topic about 'Change' we are looking at how technology and school life was different back when our grandparents went to school. School life in Grandma's day is about Anne's schooling life. Click on this link to read the story. Add your ideas to the padlet about what technology was used and anything you find interesting. - Initial your contribution so we can see who found out what. You need to decide if you are going to complete a Level 2 or Level 3 mihi. Click the link to make a copy to your Drive and complete the mihi.
You will need to practice your mihi to share with a pair, group and class. We will record our mihi using Screencastify or on the ipad's and put onto our blogs. In Room 4 for reading we are going to be completing Daily 5 activities to encourage ourselves to self manage. Our Check List Please make sure you fill in your check list each time you are working with your daily five (create a new one here and put it in your named folder on the Drive, in your reading folder). Remember to get a buddy to check you off. To get checked off from a buddy you must have worked with them or shared your work with them. Remember to check off with a different buddy for each task. This could be Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.), Read Theory, Epic Books, or Kiwi Kids News and Study ladder. You could read the newspaper or a book from the library corner. Remember a story with questions to answer is better than just reading a story as this encourages you to think about what you have read. Sometimes Miss Strange will set you a text to read before coming to work with her and this will be part of Reading to Self. These texts may be given to you or may be in the Things from Miss Blair's folder in your Drive. Buddy up with someone you know you can work positively with. Share a page or two of the book that you are reading (this could be your own library book, a book from the class library or a book from somewhere else). Be ready for your partner to ask you questions about the characters, the setting, the events of the story or what you think may happen next. Using your headphones, head to Storyline Online, listen to a School Journal or Junior Journal story or article, listen to a Ready to Read story or listen to a story on Epic. Practicing your individual or class spelling words. Remember that your lists are in your notebook or on sheets on your drive and you will be buddy tested on them. You could: - make a word search or make a crossword - write your words in morse code - find your least and most valuable word by doing Spelling Addition - spell your words using the phonetic alphabet -take on the Roll-a-Word challenge - do a practice test (enter your words from your list) and then complete one of the activities on Kidsspell or a choose a list and learn about sounds in a word. - choose an activity on Study ladder under English and Spelling Vocabulary to learn about how words work - ABC Order - Order your words Alphabetically - Spelling Words - 30 second words - create a TV commercial using all the words from your list - Secret Agent Words -Complete one of the spelling tasks This could be working on writing tasks from writing for the day (on your Drive or in your book) or doing some of your own writing. Remember to complete any personal writing on a seperate Google doc. |
